Investidura Doctor Honoris Causa en la Universidad de Jaen al Dr. Cuadrado – 31 de mayo de 2012

Desde la Universidad de Jaén nos han hecho llegar la invitación formal al acto de Investidura del Profesor Dr. Juan Ramón Cuadrado Roura, al objeto de que la haga llegar a los socios de la AECR.

Este acto solemne tendrá lugar el 31 de mayo de 2012 a las 12h. en el Aula Magna del Campus de Lagunillas de la Universidad de Jaén.

Short notice about Prof. Juan R. Cuadrado-Roura, recently awarded of an Honoris Causa PhD:

 Prof. Juan R. Cuadrado-Roura, awarded of a second Honoris Causa Ph D.

 

The University of Jaen, Spain, has awarded Prof. Juan R. Cuadrado as ‘Doctor Honoris Causa’. This is the second award of this type received by this distinguished Professor, former President of the ERSA (1995-2000) and former member of the RSAI Council too. He was one of the founders (1973) and later President of the Spanish Section of Regional Science (AECR). He is Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Alcala, Madrid and Founder-Director of the Institute of Economic and Social Analysis. He is also Director of ‘Investigaciones Regionales’, a scientific journal widely diffused in Spain and Latin America, which includes contributions written not only in Spanish but in English.

He has worked as expert and/or advisor for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the OECD and the European Commission (General Directions of Regional Policy, Internal Market, Enterprises and Innovation; being personal adviser of the Commissioner for Cohesion and Regional Policy. He was Secretary at the Ministry of Transport Tourism and Telecommunications and President of the Spanish Advisor Committee for Privatizations, until recently. His publications refer to diverse economic matters, but there are two fields he has particularly attended: regional studies and the analysis and development of service industries. Besides, publications have also referred to input-output analysis, the European Union economy and policies, the Spanish economic policy, incomes policies and other. The National Commission for Evaluating Research Activities has recognized him 6 research terms (the maximum). In 1995, the European Commission granted him a Chair Jean Monnet, recognizing the pro-European docent and research activities developed and to support them in the future.

He has published a high number of articles in refereed international and Spanish journals, mainly on regional problems and policies, as well as on service industries developments. Between his books: Regional Convergence in the European Union (2002) (editor and co-author), Springer; Trading Services in the Global Economy (2002) (ed. and co-author), Edward Elgar; Governing the Metropolis, 2008, Harvard University Press; Política Económica (2010) ,  McGraw-Hill, 4th edition; Servicios y Regiones en España (2010), Funcas Pbls.; Regional Policy, Economic Growth and Convergence (2010), Springer-Verlag. and more than 20 books in Spanish. Two new books are going to be published by Springer: Services Growth and Regional and Territorial Effects (2012) and Regional Problems en Policies in Latin America (2013), co-editor with P. Aroca)
