This work addresses the policy of strengthening the regional cohesion of the co-financed programs with the ERDF fund in the period 2014-2020 in Spain. The relationship between regional imbalances in R&D, ICT, SMEs and low-carbon economics and the funds allocated for their correction is analyzed. The planned investments are, in general, relatively larger in the regions with the worst initial situation in the imbalances mentioned. However, in all of them, progress is being made towards the transformation of the current economic model towards a more sustainable one, linked to innovation and the digital society. We start from the aggregate results for the Spanish economy that we obtained in a previous work and here we quantify the effects that on the economic growth and the employment of the Spanish regions would have the execution of the co-financed programs with the FEDER Fund 2014-2020. The regional impact of co-financed programs with the ERDF fund tends to create more employment and increase GDP per capita in the most economically depressed regions.

This paper aims to synthetically present an updated vision of the problem of territorial inequalities in Latin America. In its preparation have been used figures and recent documents, as well as others published a few years ago. In addition to study the population and product concentration within countries, with the corresponding differences between their provinces, states or regions, four specific countries are more detaily studied to show what types of territorial policies have been implemented in recent years. An added value of this article is that it provides a broad bibliography, both of the works quoted in the text, but as well other reports articles and webs that will allow the interested reader to broaden the topics covered.

This paper presents a conceptual framework to analyse the redistributive impact of transfers in the context of a decentralized economy. The framework is illustrated by means of a numerical example that describes an economy with three regions and two levels of government —the central level and the regional level—. With this set up, the paper analyses a variety of transfer systems and considers its effects on redistribution using as benchmark a centralized version of this economy, in which tax capacity is unevenly distributed across the three regions and central government public expenditure is distributed across regions according to their population.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between exports growth and output growth within the framework of Kaldor-Thirlwall’s regional growth theory. The case study is the economy of Río Negro Province for period 1970-2013. The empirical method applied in this research is regression analysis. The results allow inferring that proxy variable of exports is statistically significant to explain economic growth of Río Negro. In addition, the study shows that economic activities of tourism and fruit complexes have a significant impact on the growth of the product, while the incidence of oil and gas production is lower.

Finally, results are analyzed from a comparative perspective with similar works.

This paper deals with the regional tax management administered by the Spanish subnational levels of government o Autonomous Communities. Using Data envelopment analysis and the Malmquist productivity index, we estimate both efficiency level and productivity change in the period 2004-2012. In order to arrange the regional tax management in homogeneous groups, we use a cluster analysis. The results of the estimation are an average efficiency of 90.8% and a productivity improvement of 3.4%. The Data envelopment analysis and cluster analysis show independence in the classification of the Autonomous Communities, with a 48% success.

This article provides new empirical evidence on the relationship between the unemployment rate and the output growth in Spain at the regional level. The «gap version» with the output growth on the left-hand side of the equation is our benchmark model. Our empirical results show that all coefficients are significant and show the expected negative sign. Significant regional differences in the Okun’s relationship, both for the short run and the long run, are found. These results are robust to two different specifications for the gaps: the HP filter and the QT procedure. In the final part of the article, it is also found that the OLS and the GMM estimates for panel data exhibit a similar pattern and that there is a clear asymmetry in the Okun’s relationship in booming and recession phases of the Spanish business cycle.

This paper analyzes the incidence of forced displacement on multidimensional poverty at the municipal level in Antioquia, Colombia. To measure poverty we compute the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). The forced displacement data is used as a measure of armed conflict intensity. Then, through a Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) model, it is found that in rural Antioquia the living standards and education dimensions account for a big share of multidimensional poverty, whereas in urban Antioquia are the employment and income dimensions. Moreover, it was found that the municipal level of poverty were highly sensitive to the rate of reception of forced displacement people.

People are undertaking various decision problems daily. Spatial and multi-criteria aspects of the studied problem led to develop a multi-criteria spatial decision support system (MC-SDSS) based web. This paper presents a webbased MC-SDSS verification with two-way participation based on the results of a previous work, defining the first phases of a conceptual framework and prototype application. In this work, it aims at examining the suitability of sustainable building arrangements that have occurred in Extremadura rural landscapes. With qualitative two-way content and survey data, the results described radar diagrams reflecting the different perception of public and academic participation groups (G1 to G5). Specifically, G4 expressed more positive responses to building integration while G5 showed the opposite responses. Thus, it is fundamental to help proper land-uses and decision alternatives through accurate and efficient tool, and to be able to apply other destinations.

The aim of this study is to analyze business growth in the Iberian Euro-region called EUROACE during the 2007-2015 period. Specifically, we analyze which type of companies are those that have the greatest growth potential and which public measures are the ones that must be taken to facilitate their development and, in this way, boost the economy of the Euro-region and create employment. To that end, we contrast a dynamic regression model using the generalized method of moments in panel data. Our results indicate that medium-sized companies are those that favor business growth and the economic development of the Euro-region regardless of the country effect.
